Sky Atlantic: First schedules published

The schedules for they heavily-trailed new Sky Atlantic channel have just been published, and they make interesting reading. As well as the much talked-about brand new programmes, the channel is an opportunity to catch-up with a few major series starting from the very first episode, reducing the need to get those box sets.

It all starts at 8pm on Tuesday 1st February with an hour-long preview show which will be simulcast on Sky 1 and the newly relaunched Sky Living HD. Things really get going an hour later with the first episode of Boardwalk Empire, Martin Scorsese’s Golden Globe-winning drama. It’s followed by Tom Selleck’s new cop show Blue Blood. Episode two of Boardwalk Empire airs on the following night and things start to settle down to a normal schedule by the Thursday, where the very first episode Six Feet Under appears, along with brand new Entourage. Friday night sees the first half of Spike Lee’s Hurricane Katrina documentary When the Levees Broke, which will be concluded the following week. Weekend evenings seem to be the home of HBO’s films and one-off specials.

Monday night looks like comedy night, with the first ever two episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm at 9pm, followed by two new episodes of Weeds. Other 9pm series include Battlestar Galactica Tuesday night, Wednesday will have the first episode of the Sopranos and Friday will feature the start of the very poor fourth season of Prison Break.

During the daytime hours, some long running series will be aired, again often starting from the very first episode, with five episodes a week, although sadly it seems that 24 will be starting with Day 7 rather than the first season. Some of these shows will also be running in a weekly early evening slot, featuring a different, later season. For example, while ER will be running in daytime starting from the pilot episode and then through the first season, the Thursday evening slot will start with the show’s fifteenth season.

This post has had to be fairly heavily edited over the last day or two, but finally here’s what should be a more-or-less final schedule for the first few days on air:
